EU-28 export: China and Egypt main butter buyers

EU-28 exports in March 2016 compared to March 2015 increased in volumes for:

  • Milk and cream (+64.8%)
  • Butter (+26.2%)
  • Cheese (+15.5%)
  • Infant milk formula (+3.4%)

decreased for:

  • Whey Powder (-1.4%)
  • WMP (-10.1%)
  • SMP (-12.0%)

From January to March 2016 y-o-y the exports growth accounted for 12% of the increase in milk deliveries. In fact:

  • EU milk deliveries increased by 7.22% (2.601.075 Tons)
  • Extra-EU exports of cheese, milk powders, butter, condensed milk, liquid milk, cream and yogurt in “milk equivalent” increased by 6,71% (313.733 Tons)

The value of exports was 3.403 Mio €; the value of imports was 195 Mio €, so the commercial balance is positive (trade surplus: 3.208 Mio €)

The main regions importing European dairy products (cheese, milk powders, butter, condensed milk, liquid milk, cream and yogurt) were:

  • Africa import, accounting for 23% of market share, decreased by 13.4%
  • Asia – South East import, accounting for 31% of market share, increased by 24.7%
  • Asia – Middle East import, accounting for 19% of market share, increased by 12.9%
  • North America import, accounting for 6% of market share, increased by 7.2%
  • Europe (Others – extra EU) import, accounting for 7% of market share, increased by 6%

The main Importers of Butter in the first 3 months of 2016 (year over year) were:

  • China import, accounting for 17% of market share, increased by 456.6%
  • Egypt import, accounting for 10% of market share, increased by 17.1%
  • Saudi Arabia import, accounting for 10% of market share, increased by 16.2%
  • United States import, accounting for 7% of market share, increased by 38.8%
  • Morocco import, accounting for 4% of market share, increased by 76.4%
