Italy exports less dairy, but at higher prices

Light and shadow for Italian dairy export. In the period January-July 2018 the exported volumes decrease (-2.5% y-o-y), but the values increase (+3.8%).

Growing export for 
Cheese and Butter

The export of Cheese is growing in quantity and value, with good performances for Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano, Fresh cheese, Grated cheese and Gorgonzola. Italy increased its Butter exports +50.7% in volume and +72.2% in value, y-o-y.

Germany, 
first target market

The relationship with Germany is further strengthened and Germany remains the first target market for many dairy products.

 

The “Milk and cream” segment export decreased (-17.5% in quantity and -4.1% in value) in the first 7 months of 2018 compared to 2017, despite the July exploit (+36.8% in quantity and +38.8% in value). Libya is the first destination for Italian milk, but in the period January-July it decreased -16%.

The export of Packaged cream grew significantly: +60.6% in quantity and +66% in value, driven by the boom (+442%) of South Korea.

Considering only the month of July 2018, positive signs emerge for exports in quantity and value, especially for fresh cheeses, Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano, Grated cheeses, Gorgonzola, Packaged milk, Butter.
