Italian dairy export Jan-Aug 2014

The Italian Cheese Export (HS. 0406) increased by 3.9% in volume, and by 2.3% in unit value in the period January-August 2014 compared to the same period of previous year.

The most popular products abroad are Fresh Cheeses like Mascarpone, Ricotta and Mozzarella; they were +4.9% in volume and +4.3% in value with a total of 94,881 tons exported. First destination is France with 32,053 tons, +6.9% compared to January-August 2014.

Concerning the PDO Cheeses, exports of Grana Padano PDO and Parmigiano Reggiano PDO increased by 5% in volume but decreased by 1.8% in value; exports of Gorgonzola PDO increased by 2.8% in volume and +5.5% in value. The main importer was Germany. Exports of Pecorino Romano PDO and Fiore Sardo PDO (ewes’ milk) decreased by 1.2% but increased 13.2% in value. The main importer remains the USA.
