Italy exports more Mozzarella and Ricotta, mainly inside the EU

For the year-to-date period ended May 31, Italian dairy exports increased in volume (+13.5%) and in value (+12.8%), on a trend basis.

The month of May 2017 was positive for Italian Cheese exports, compared with May 2016, with increases for:

  • Pecorino and Fiore Sardo (+26.8%)
  • Provolone (+16.4%)
  • Grated or powered cheeses (+10.8%)
  • Fresh cheeses incl. mozzarella, cheese and ricotta (+10.8%)
  • Asiago, Montasio, Ragusano, Caciocavallo (+7.3%)
  • Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano (+1.1%)

Only Gorgonzola’s exports are slowing (in terms of quantity and not of value), with lower purchases from Germany, a country that in 2016 had considerably increased imports of the veined blue cheese (+42,4%).

Exports of Mozzarella, Ricotta and fresh cheeses reached 13,468 tons in May (+1,311 tons y-o-y) and was more appreciated in Europe.

Italian bulk cream export keeps being successful, mainly to South Korea, and recorded a 68.3% increase in May 2017 (from May 2016, which was already +524.5%).
