China is back on the dairy market

China imports in January 2016 compared to January 2015 increased in volumes for Butter (+83.0%), Bulk and pack. milk (+71.6%), Cheese (+65.7%), Whey Powder (+53.2%), WMP (+52.3%), SMP (+43.2%), Infant milk formula (+38.9%).

China import in January was supported by the China Free Trade Agreement (FTA). According to FTA, for New Zealand there is a limit placed on the volume of dairy products (WMP, SMP, Butter, AMF and Cheese) which can be imported into China at a reduced tariff rate.

The 2016 quota has been filled.

The main Exporters of WMP in January 2016 (year over year) were:

• New Zealand export, accounting for 98% of market share, increased by 50.9%
• Australia export, accounting for 1% of market share, increased by 683.9%

The main Exporters of Butter in January 2016 (year over year) were:

• New Zealand export, accounting for 93% of market share, increased by 88.5%
• France export, accounting for 3% of market share, increased by 62.9%

The main Exporters of SMP in January 2016 (year over year) were:

• New Zealand export, accounting for 76% of market share, increased by 37%
• Australia export, accounting for 4% of market share, decreased by 6.3%
• United States export, accounting for 4% of market share, increased by 247.3%
• Germany export, accounting for 4% of market share, increased by 127.8%
• France export, accounting for 4% of market share, increased by 149.5%

The main Exporters of Bulk and pack. milk in January 2016 (year over year) were:

• Germany export, accounting for 44% of market share, increased by 116.6%
• Australia export, accounting for 15% of market share, decreased by 0.8%
• New Zealand export, accounting for 13% of market share, increased by 140.7%
• France export, accounting for 7% of market share, increased by 83.3%
• Poland export, accounting for 5% of market share, increased by 763.6%
