Italy Export: Pecorino Romano and Fiore Sardo vs USA +20%

Italy exports in September 2015 compared to September 2014 increased in volumes for Butter (+31.1%), Cheese (+7.7%) while decreased for Whey Powder (-12.5%).

Export of main cheese in September 2015 compared to September 2014 increased in volumes for Asiago, Montasio, Ragusano, Caciocavallo (+20.8%), Gorgonzola (+19.1%), Grated or powered cheeses (+17.5%), Pecorino and Fiore Sardo (+5.8%), Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano (+1.6%) while decreased for Provolone (-0.8%).

The main importers in the first 9 months of 2015 (year over year) were:

For Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano:

  • Germany import – accounting for 22% of market share – increased by 0.6%
  • USA import – accounting for 15% of market share – increased by 25.6%

For Grated or powered cheeses:

  • France import – accounting for 29% of market share – increased by 6.4%
  • Germany import – accounting for 28% of market share – increased by 54.6%

For Pecorino and Fiore Sardo:

  • USA import – accounting for 64% of market share – increased by 20.1%
  • Germany import – accounting for 8% of market share – decreased by 0.4%

For Gorgonzola:

  • Germany import – accounting for 23% of market share – increased by 9.1%
  • France import – accounting for 21% of market share – increased by 2.6%
