NEW ZEALAND
- Milk production: is transitioning from maintaining or maximizing current production levels
- Weather forecast: recent storms caused flooding on almost all Island
- Milk producers: many milk producers are drying off cows at increasing rate, others are moving cattle to alternative grazing sites, feeding grain supplements to improve conditioning prior to the next season
MILK PRODUCTION
- New Zealand *: +6,37 % (Jun 13 – Feb 14 vs. Jun 12 – Feb 13)
- Australia *: -1,36 % (Jul 13 – Mar 14 vs. Jul 12 – Mar 13)
BUTTER (82%): unchanged prices, but lower at international level; increased export interest from Middle East and Russia; supplies adequate to needs with some excess available for spot interest; AMF supplies are tight and export interest is light.
CHEDDAR CHEESE: low prices; production is declining but those available is geared to filling export and domestic commitments; limited availability for the spot market.
SMP: prices declined, but not as sharply as two weeks ago; steady production; supplies in balance with needs for the next season, with some additional product destined to the spot market; some manufacturers are minimizing uncommitted stocks at the close of the financial year.
WMP: prices declined so buyer interest increased; stocks are adequate to cover future commitments; production seems to be concluded.
