MILK PRODUCTION
AUSTRALIAN milk production is above year ago levels. Good milk prices are stimulating milk producers to extend late season production with supplemental feeding.
With the intention to expand milk powder production and if all investor efforts come to fruition, there would be 4 new plants producing milk powders.
Current milk production in NEW ZEALAND is good. Producers, due to the dry conditions, are drying off lower producing cows, to better conserve feed supplies.
- New Zealand *: +5,71 % (Jun 13 – Jan 14 vs. Jun 12 – Jan 13)
- Australia *: -2,16 % (Jul 13 – Jan 14 vs. Jul 12 – Jan 13)
BUTTER (82%): lower prices; more global supplies available; demand from Russia is slowing down, from Southeast Asian is good; AMF prices have declined and are more competitive with the butter market, but demand has lessened.
CHEDDAR CHEESE: steady market; production destined to fill current domestic and export orders.
SMP: lower prices; increased global supplies; Australian stocks mostly committed; New Zealand volumes available on the spot market; steady demand from Southeast Asia and Middle East.
WMP: lower prices; higher global production; weaker demand from China; some buyers are seeing China’s reduced involvement in the market as an opportunity to secure needed supplies.
Some buyers are holding off purchases of dairy products, awaiting for the possibility of further price declines due to the increasing supplies in the Northern Hemisphere.
