Italy performs well in Europe… also with fresh cheeses

Italy exports in March 2016 compared to March 2015 increased in volumes for:

  • Milk and cream (+16.9%)
  • Cheese (+7.9%)

decreased for:

  • Whey Powder (-12.8%)

Export of main cheese in March 2016 compared to March 2015 increased in volumes for Grated or powered cheeses (+20.0%), Fresh cheeses incl. mozzarella, cheese and ricotta (+17.8%), Provolone (+6.0%), Gorgonzola (+4.5%) while decreased for Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano (-0.2%), Asiago, Montasio, Ragusano, Caciocavallo (-1.6%), Pecorino and Fiore Sardo (-30.1%).

The main importers inthe first 3 months of 2016 (year over year) were:

For Fresh cheeses incl. mozzarella, cheese and ricotta:

  • France import – accounting for 29% of market share – increased by 16.1%
  • United Kingdom import – accounting for 15% of market share – increased by 22.2%
  • Germany import – accounting for 8% of market share – increased by 92.6%
  • Belgium import – accounting for 8% of market share – increased by 5.8%
  • Switzerland import – accounting for 6% of market share – increased by 3.8%

For Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano:

  • Germany import – accounting for 19% of market share – decreased by 10.2%
  • USA import – accounting for 17% of market share – increased by 5.6%
  • France import – accounting for 10% of market share – increased by 18.9%
  • United Kingdom import – accounting for 8% of market share – increased by 12.5%
  • Switzerland import – accounting for 6% of market share – decreased by 11.6%

For Gorgonzola:

  • Germany import – accounting for 30% of market share – increased by 30.3%
  • France import – accounting for 21% of market share – increased by 20.7%
  • Spain import – accounting for 5% of market share – increased by 16.1%
  • Switzerland import – accounting for 5% of market share – increased by 5.3%
  • United Kingdom import – accounting for 5% of market share – increased by 7.6%
