SMP and WMP export prices slightly increased in South America [News South America n°2/2018]

Period: January 8 – 19, 2018

Milk deliveries in Argentina are mostly unchanged from recent weeks. Wet weather continues to provide some challenges to dairy farmers for managing cow comfort.

In Uruguay the comfortable temperatures still support milk deliveries, which in November were +6.52% higher than Nov 2016.

SMP exporting prices slightly increased in South America (+0.99%). Even with the continuing overhang of EU intervention stocks, many buyers are interested in current production.

Also WMP exporting prices slightly increased, following recent upward trends at the latest GDT event (Jan 16, 2018). The GDT price strength is significant, since New Zealand is by far the main exporter of WMP in the world (1’143’428 tons in 2017).
